This site sets no cookies. That is the whole policy; the rest of this page explains what it means and what happens instead.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small file that a website asks your browser to store and send back on later visits, which is how a site recognises a returning browser. Cookies can be useful — keeping you signed in, remembering a setting — and they are also the mechanism behind most tracking and advertising measurement on the web.

What this site does

soliddigital.online sets no cookies of its own, and permits no third party to set cookies through it. Specifically, there is no analytics cookie, no advertising or remarketing cookie, no conversion or tracking pixel, no social media embed, no embedded video player, no session identifier and no preference cookie. No third-party JavaScript runs on any page of this site, and no fonts, images, stylesheets or scripts are loaded from any external host, so no other company’s server is contacted when you read a page here.

Because nothing is stored on your device and nothing is tracked, there is no consent banner on this site. That is deliberate. A banner asking permission to set cookies, on a site that sets none, would be a false statement dressed up as a courtesy.

What happens instead

Two things happen that involve your device, and neither uses a cookie.

• Server logs. The hosting provider records the IP address, the user agent string, the URL requested and the time of each request, as any web server does. These logs are used to keep the site available and secure, and they are retained for no longer than 30 days. The privacy policy describes this in full, including the disclosure to recipients outside Australia under Australian Privacy Principle 8.
• Browser caching. Your browser may keep its own copy of the stylesheet or the JavaScript file so that pages load faster on a second visit. That is your browser’s behaviour, under your control, and nothing is reported back to this site.

Local storage, and fingerprinting

This site uses no localStorage, no sessionStorage and no IndexedDB. Nothing is written to your device by any page here. The single JavaScript file on this site opens and closes the navigation menu and marks the current page in it; you can read it at /assets/main.js, where it is unminified and commented for exactly that reason. No fingerprinting of any kind is performed: no canvas, font, screen or device enumeration, and no attempt to identify a returning visitor.

Controlling cookies in your browser anyway

Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies, usually under a privacy or site settings section, and most offer a control to block third-party cookies across all sites. Clearing cookies signs you out of sites that use them and resets preferences on those sites; it will have no effect at all on this one, because nothing here depends on a cookie. Private or incognito windows discard cookies when the window closes, which is a reasonable habit for browsing generally.

If this ever changes

If a cookie, a tracking script or a measurement tag is ever introduced to this site, this page will be rewritten first, naming what is set, by whom, for what purpose and for how long, and a working consent mechanism will be in place before any such technology goes live. No tag will be added quietly and documented later.
